We Remember George Kimball on BoxingChannel.TV
We at TSS are still digesting the death of the fightwriting fraternity's literary lion, the irascible George Kimball. After fighting about a hundred rounds with esophogeal cancer, Kimball succumbed to the attacker on July 6, overnight.
Friends, colleagues, and admirers have gushed forth with a bounty of praise, and recollections and anecdotes which indicate that George's talent and style touched a great number of people in the fight game. On BoxingChannel.TV, Al Bernstein put together a short video which touches on George's legacy.
Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler gave praise to George, calling him a great writer, and said he will really be missed. “George could be a curmudgeon, you didn't know if he was going to be friendly that day or gruff, but you had to respect his knowledge and his writing ability. He was a guy you'd never thought would be off the scene but now we've lost him.”
Top Rank's Lee Samuels recalled he met Kimball when Top Rank's Marvin Hagler fought Sugar Ray Leonard. “He'll be missed in the boxing landcape,” Samuels said.
Dave Bontempo also collected remembrances from fightgame folks. ESPN's Dan Rafael trotted down memory lane, and thanked George for helping show him the ropes.
