Mikey Garcia Gets TKO Win At MSG…WOODS
In the chief support bout to the Nonito Donaire-Omar Narvaez scrap at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden in NYC, Mikey Garcia took on Juan Carlos Martinez. Garcia's NABF featherweight crown was on the line.
In the first, the 17-12-1 Mexican pumped a jab to start while the 26-0 Californian took a bit to assess his skills. Mikey's left eye was a bit swollen in the second, from getting laced, and if he scoffed at JC for his record before, he didn't now. In the third, JC got staggered by a right, but Mikey is the patient type, he didn't go overboard in trying to press the issue. He sent JC down via a straight right before the bell.
In round four, JC went down again, off a right. He got up, and then was sent down down again, from several clean blows. The ref Harvey Dock let him continue, and he took a few more clean shots before Dock stepped in. The time of the TKO was 2:46.
Mikey went 76-190 while JC went 56-217, according to CompuBox.
