The 24 year old Vasquez, rated number three by the WBA, is 27-0 with 14 knockouts. This native of Costa Rica won the WBA Fedelatin title in his last fight with a unanimous decision win over Mexican Alan Herrera. He is considered by in boxing as a potential star in the sport. Benavides, a 29 year old from Nicaragua, is 23-2-2 as a professional, and enters this match with a six fight win streak. The winner of this fight is assured of a chance to fight for the WBA title, now held by Takashi Uchiyama.
