A Star Is Maybe Born: Pier-Olivier Cote, Remember the Name…WOODS
Pier-Olivier Cote took on Jorge Teron in the TV opener on Showtime, underneath the Lucian Bute-Glen Johnson main event on Saturday night, and ladies and gentlemen, I don't know if a star was born in Cote on this night, but at the very least we found one to watch. Cote is a mad bomber, who throws with murderous intent, and he will likely get on some peoples' “must avoid list.”
Cote (born in Colombia; age 27; 140 pounds; 17-0 entering) hasn't been much tested on his way up, while Teron (from the Bronx, living in Vegas; age 26; 139 1/4; 25-2-1 entering) was a hot NY prospect whose shine has dimmed in recent years. The vacant IBF Intercontinental junior welter crown was up for grabs at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec.
Teron ate a nasty right over a slow jab in the first but caught himself from going down. He was then eating heavy shots on the ropes and threw his own counter right which nearly had Cote on his butt in the first. A left right-combo sent Teron down at the start of the second. Cote sent him down again, off a hellacious left hook, blood gushing from his nose and that was all she wrote. The ref didn't need to finish the count, as Teron was groggy and in no shape to continue, though he did try to get up.
