Good Bouts Upcoming: Garcia-Salido, Lara-Martirosyan, Rios-Alvarado
I'm liking the HBO Boxing After Dark main event for Nov. 10, with Mikey Garcia meeting Orlando Salido at the MGM Grand.
The Californian Garcia, age 24, has a 29-0 record, and is coming off a KO2 win over Mauricio Pastrana in Mexico on Sept. 1. Readers, do you favor him over the 39-11-2 Salido, the 31-year-old Mexican, who grabbed the WBO featherweight crown from Juan Manuel Lopez back in April 2011?
On that card, Cuban Erislandy Lara will tangle with Vanes Martirosyan, the 32-0 Armenian-born Cali resident who was been angling for a big fight for many moons, and now might be in a situation where he could regret getting what he asked for. Can the 26 year-old handle the 29-year-old slicky Lara, who boasts a 17-0 record? My dough is on Lara. But a fight that I think has an even better chance to be fight of the year is the Oct. 13 Brandon Rios-Mike Alvarado scrum, a 30-0 guy against a 33-0 guy. The stubborn streaks in those two are two miles wide, and I see several knockdowns, blood and drama galore there. Nonito Donaire headlines versus Toshiaki Nishioka on that card, from the Home Depot Center in Cali. Weigh in who you like in these matches, in our Forum, please.
