DiBella on Boxing: “It's A Dirty Business”
The fight game can suck you in, make you an addict, and then, if you stay in long enough, or maybe too long, you can begin to find elements of it repellant. The high diminshes, you feel the hangover longer, harder. For promoter Lou DiBella, the romance curdles awhile aback, and he now struggles with the darker sides of the sport. Check out this mini-documentary by film-maker John James, in which DiBella, the Harvard-educated New York based deal-maker who used to run HBO's boxing programming and now finds himself contemplating an exit from the business which he finds makes him long for copious cleansing showers, vocalizes his disaffection.
It's short, and powerful.
