BERNARD HOPKINS, BEIBUT SHUMENOV AND APRIL 19 SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® FIGHTERS JUMP ON THE “SELFIE” BANDWAGON
Fans Post “Selfies” Using #HopkinsShumenov On Twitter For Potential Fighter Retweet
LOS ANGELES (April 1, 2014) – Fighters have fun too – even during training camp. Maybe there is not too much time for April Fools’ Day pranking, but there’s no reason the fighters participating in the SHOWTIME® televised portion of the highly anticipated “History at the Capitol” fight card taking place Saturday, April 19 at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C. can’t stop their preparations momentarily for the latest social media fad – the “selfie.”
Named the “2013 Word of the Year” by Oxford Dictionaries, “selfie” is defined as “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.”
IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins, WBA and IBA Light Heavyweight World Champion Beibut Shumenov, IBF Welterweight World Champion Shawn “Showtime” Porter, NABF Welterweight Champion Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi, WBO Middleweight World Champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin and top middleweight contender Lukas Konecny all took the time to snap a photo of themselves on a day known for fun, hoaxes and practical jokes – April Fools’ Day!
Fans can tag #HopkinsShumenov on Twitter with their own “selfie” and they might get a retweet from one of their favorite fighters on the April 19 fight card.
