Late Change: Martinez Will Walk To Ring After Cotto
Sergio Martinez, the WBC middleweight champion, will come to the ring for his fight with challenger Miguel Cotto second, AFTER Cotto, we are told by Team Martinez’ Nathan Lewkowicz.
Er, why? Hadn’t Cotto requested, during negotiations, to come in second, in the slot reserved for the champ, as part of his package of requests?
“They changed it last second, no clue why,” Nathan told us. “I guess to mess with our heads.”
I am dubious as to whether the order of ringwalk will actually impact the fight at all…but anyway…I asked Nathan if there is any meaningfullness to this late change, if indeed this switcheroo will impact Team Martinez.
“Doubtful,” he said.
