Might Hopkins Consider Hitting the Eject Button Early Saturday Night?
There is a school of thought out and about which says that if things are going poorly for Bernard Hopkins on Saturday night in AC, he will hit the eject button.
I heard a member of Team Kovalev talking about the possibility that Hopkins might pull an ACL, or something along those lines, rather than accept an impending fate delivered by the fists of Kovalev.
What about it, Kathy Duva, think there is the possibility that the wily vet goes ultra wily vet and pulls the plug early?
“No,” she told me at Gleason's Gym, the venerable Brooklyn institution, on Tuesday afternoon. “I think he's thinking about his legacy heavily, and I don't think he wants to go out rolling around on the floor. Of course we've thought about it. But I can't control what Bernard Hopkins does, but even then, my guy is still gonna get his hand raised, and he's gonna have three belts.”
Duva said all possibilities have been considered, and that she's seen a 19 minute video of Hopkins engaged in some of the less savory aspect of the Queensberry practice. She believes that his legacy is at an all-time high, bigger than when he was a middleweight monster, and thus, he wouldn't want to go that route. Some theorized that Hopkins didn't like the vibe in his first fight with Chad Dawson, and willed an occurence to affect the outcome before the worm turned.
This is boxing, where we expect that the theater will include something unexpected, so I'm guessing that somehow, we will see something we didn't expect or consider come Saturday night.
