Regarding Mike Tyson, And a Comeback Against Bermane Stiverne
Can’t blame boxing’s Barnum for getting a little misty eyed and nostalgic for the grand old days, and harkening back and revisiting the time and aura when The Baddest Man on the Planet was in his stable, and acting as a maniacal revenue generator. Er….that is to say, a most-steady moneymaker.
The hypemaker a couple days ago drifted into fantasy land and verbalized a dream matchup. “Bermane Stiverne is Tyson-like,” he told press Monday. “And if he gets through this fight (with Deontay Wilder) I’m gonna go talk to Mike Tyson, and see if I can get him to come back and add his incredible ability, to come back just as George Foreman did at 46. Tyson being 48, and then Bernard Hopkins taking it to 50, I think it’s a thing, something the public would want to see. And you’re giving an opportunity again in the land of opportunity.”
Hey, stranger things have happened than Mike Tyson admitting he hasn’t gotten the boxing bug out of his system, and, maybe, because he had his IRA in Russian oil stocks or something, he wanted to make a comeback, ten years after he last gloved up.
Just to make sure nothing was in the works and King hadn’t set the table for his dreamy scenario, I reached out to Team Tyson. A source close to the all-time great listened to King’s fancy, and responded, “He is retired and if someone offered trillions of dollars it wouldn’t happen,? as he is happy with his life and career now in entertainment.”
So, had your heart set on Iron Mike trying to pull a B-Hop-ish feat, and finish his career with a W? Sorry, looks like King’s ramblings were just that.
