Canelo-Kirkland 24/7 Debuts on HBO May 5
24/7 ALVAREZ/KIRKLAND
PREMIERES TUESDAY, MAY 5 ON HBO®
March 19, 2015 – In anticipation of one of the spring boxing season’s most intriguing events – the super welterweight battle between Canelo Alvarez and James Kirkland on May 9th – HBO Sports will air “24/7 Alvarez/Kirkland,” an exhilarating one episode, 30-minute special examining the upcoming showdown. In the highly-anticipated fight set for Minute Maid Park in Houston, Tex., Alvarez and Kirkland will collide in one of the year’s most important encounters. HBO will televise it live on the flagship World Championship Boxing series.
The “24/7 Alvarez/Kirkland” special will premiere Tuesday, May 5 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and air multiple times throughout fight week. It will preview the fast approaching and hotly anticipated meeting between two accomplished warriors who are on a collision course to confront each other. The special will provide all-new content including portraits of both fighters’ path to this significant spring showdown.
Canelo Alvarez, just 24-years-old and one of boxing’s biggest stars with a near perfect ring record of 44-1-1 (31 KOs), will make his 2015 debut after a successful 2014 campaign that featured signature wins over Erislandy Lara and Alfredo Angulo. Kirkland, 29, of Austin, Texas, returns to action in his home state boasting a 32-1 record with 28 knockouts which exemplifies the stunning knockout strength he will bring to the ring.
The 30-minute special narrated by Liev Schreiber and produced by HBO’s Emmy-Award®-winning “24/7” production team will also be available on the HBO On Demand® service, HBO GO® and at www.hbo.com/boxing as well as various other new media platforms that distribute the series.
Other HBO playdates: May 6 (7:00 a.m. & 2:30 p.m.), 7 (11:30 a.m.), 8 (1:00 a.m. & 5:30 p.m.) and 9 (11:00 a.m.).
HBO2 playdates: May 5 (2:50 a.m.), 7 (11:45 p.m.) and 8 (10:30 p.m.).
