Hershman Says Promotion For Mayweather-Pacquiao Will Heat Up
HBO boxing boss Ken Hershman chatted with TSS today, and told me he loves the upcoming slate of HBO fare.
Starting Saturday, the dealmaker said, he finds the fare “staggering,” and he sees Saturday’s scrap between Ruslan Provodnikov-Lucas Matthysse as a can’t miss kickoff to the spring-early summer run.
He touched on all the upcoming HBO tangles, and talked PBC, Andre Ward, ideas for Kovalev and Cottos’ next, and much more.
First off, we chatted about, what else, May 2. You know what’s going down on that day, of course. Hershman told me that the promotion has been going pretty well from his perspective, all in all, though of course there are bumps, with all the egos and various agendas involved.
I noted that the promotion hasn’t been that exciting to this point, I haven’t seen anything special. He nodded, patiently, and said, “This weekend starts the promotion.” The promo shows will start cooking, and “there will be a lot of heat around this.”
Sagely, he noted that the two fighters are extra dialed into their camps, because they realize they need to do their very best prep. “There’s a new level of seriousness,” he said, from the fighters, who are, he reminded, not ace trash talkers.
“Hang in there, it’ll get big!”
Check out more from Hershman posting shortly..
