WBA Convention Hits Full Swing in Panama City
The World Boxing Association’s 94th convention is in full swing as guests and participants have been arriving since Monday in the Panamanian capital.
Some of the guests that have arrived so far include Miguel Cotto, Gennady Golovkin, Javier Fortuna, Jesus Cuellar, Jorge Linares, Daniel Jacobs, David Avanesyan, Ray Mancini and Kohei Kono.
The big news around the conference is the elevation of President Gilberto Mendoza to an “emeritus” status and the announcement that his son Gilberto J. Mendoza will be taking on the Presidency and active duties starting immediately.
Other announcements include the name of Canada’s George Martinez to a post as inter-regional coordinator and the addition of England?s Robert Smith to the European Committee.

The convention closes on Thursday with a fight card at the Arena Roberto Duran that sees two interim WBA World title fights, including the third meeting between Luis “El Nica” Concepcion (33-4) vs Hernan Marquez (39-6-1).
