Eye on the Heavyweights – Erkan Teper Named in Doping Scandal?
The German news website (www.br.de) is reporting that undefeated Heavyweight prospect Erkan Teper has had his name come up around a growing investigation surrounding doping.
Teper, who is (15-0) and holds several regional titles, is an emerging heavyweight prospect, but he had to pull out of his scheduled fight against Robert Helenius of Finland on December 19th due to a shoulder injury which was considered a setback.
The report states a search was conducted in April of 2015 of a car and a hotel room that yielded what are described as “elite banned substances” such as Clenbuterol, Testosterone, HGH and Methandrostenolone.
The investigation also is said to include “Vitalis Fitness”, a gym Teper is associated with that has been looked at for distribution of pharmaceuticals as far back as October of 2013.
The report centers round what is alleged to be a second failed drug test Teper had for his July 2015 fight with England’s David Price, a huge knock out win that sent Teper soaring up the rankings.
The first allegations of a failed test are from June of 2014, when he fought Newfel Ouatah for a vacant European title.
So far, Teper has not been suspended, and he has also not announced a return date since he pulled out of the December fight in Finland, or made any comments about the reports.
The author of the report states that the German Professional Boxing Council (BDB), who is responsible for testing in boxing, has not responded to calls for a statement as of yet.
There have been a great deal of allegations about doping and boxers that are based in Germany over the years, and fighters such as Heavyweights Kubrat Pulev and Mariusz Wach have tested positive recently, but the actual testing done by the (BDB) is said to be minimal.
It remains to be seen if the investigation will continue or where it will lead, but for now there are a lot of open ends to this report and a lot of people who appear to be reserving comment.
