April 16, 2012 – This Saturday April 21, 2012, Gary Shaw Productions in conjunction Zanfer Promotions present a lightweight showdown between two hard punching southpaws. Tijuana, Mexico's, Marvin “Cachorro” Quintero (24-3, 20 KOs) and Philippine native, Al “Captain A” Sabaupan (18-0-1, 13 KOs) square off in a 12-round IBF title elimination bout with the winner positioning himself as the No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger to face the champion, Miguel Vázquez (30-3, 13 KOs). The fight takes place at the Unidad Deportiva Centenario in Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico.
“When you have two hungry fighters determined to become a world champion, it's always a great event for the fans,” said Gary Shaw. “Both of these warriors are battling for the right to dethrone Vázquez, who currently holds the IBF lightweight strap. In addition, Mexico vs. the Philippines is always a heated rivalry which brings added excitement to the event.I don't think this fight is going the distance. The fans can expect a lot of fireworks on fight night.”
Riding a four fight knockout streak and always working hard in the gym, Quintero is ready to take his career to the next level.
Said Quintero, “The hard work in training camp is complete and I'm looking forward to getting the proper rest as Saturday approaches. This fight was originally scheduled to take place in the Philippines, but was moved to Mexico a few weeks ago. I'm very excited to be fighting in front of my people and I promise to give everyone in attendance a great show. I'm looking to end this fight early with a knockout.”
After capturing the Pan Pacific lightweight title in July of 2010, Sabaupan has been on a mission to prove he is the best lightweight in the world. With all his fights taking place in his home country, Sabaupan will have a difficult task winning in Mexico for the first time in his career. This makes for an exciting bout as he will be seeking a knockout to ensure victory.Q
