Press Releases
RIP, Joe Dwyer
February 9, 2015
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, the entire WBC Board and membership mourn the loss of a great “boxing guy” and true friend, Joe Dwyer, who passed away yesterday. A unique and honorable man, a mentor, a clear and knowledgable voice, he passed with dignity, leaving behind a legacy of good work and love. We thank his wife Linda for sharing Joe so unselfishly for all these years. We, stand with her and her family during her time of loss.
NORTH AMERICAN BOXING FEDERATION MOURNS THE LOSS OF JOE DWYER
On Sunday, February 8, 2015, I received a telephone call advising me of the passing of Joe Dwyer. Even though I knew Joe was going some difficult times health wise, I was truly stunned and saddened.
Joe was a street-wise individual, having been a policer officer in New York for some 34 years. All of us loved listening to Joe tell his many stories of being a police officer – we had many chuckles over his reliving those experiences. Boxing lost a man that had a love and knowledge of boxing from the basement up to the penthouse. Very few come to the love and knowledge that Joe Dwyer obtained in the sport of boxing.
He served two terms as President of the North American Boxing Federation, and developed the NABF title to be a notch below the world title and helped re-establish the prestige of the NABF belt.
We express our love and sorrow to his wife Linda and to his entire family. We will miss his counsel and direction.
Thank you Joe, and thank you Linda for all of your support to Joe, with his love of this great sport of boxing.
Duane B. Ford
President – NABF
