“KO to DRUGS” Dec 17th – Concepcion vs Marquez 3 is On
The WBA sponsored “KO to DRUGS” event scheduled for this Thursday, December 17th at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama has had a major, last minute change to its main event.
Panamanian star Luis “El Nica” Concepcion (33-4) was scheduled to make the first defense of his interim WBA Super Flyweight belt against Mexico’s Giovani Segura (32-4-1), but Segura will not be fighting.
Stepping into to fill in for Segura is Concepcion nemesis Hernan Marquez (39-6-1) a man who has beaten “El Nica” twice before.
In both prior fights, Concepcion was challenging Marquez for the WBA Flyweight title, and both times he was denied the belt.
In their most recent outing, in October of 2011, Marquez finished the Concepcion with a first round KO.
Marquez however has gone (5-4-1) in his last ten fights, while Concepcion is (9-1).
Kudos to both men for taking the fight on short notice.
The card features a second WBA interim world title fight as Jezreel Corrales (18-1) faces Juan Antonio Rodriguez (28-5) for the Super Featherweight belt, and decorated veteran Shane Mosley (48-9-1) returns to face Patrick Lopez (33-5).
Promoter Rogelio Espino has five bouts scheduled for the live event.
That is the latest from Panama City, Panama and Thursday, December 17th’s “KO to DRUGS” boxing event set for the Arena Roberto Duran.
