Belmontes (15-0) Signs With Main Events

Totowa, NJ – Super Featherweight boxer Jerry Belmontes of Corpus Christi, Texas, 15-0, 5 KOs, has signed a promotional deal with Northern New Jersey based Main Events, it was announced today by promoter Kathy Duva. An outstanding amateur fighter who won numerous tournaments and made it to the semi-finals of the USA Olympic Trials in 2008, Belmontes (15-0, 5 KO's) has built a large local fan base in Texas as he has swept through the first chapter of his career as a professional. Known as the “Corpus Christi Kid”, Belmontes defeated Justo Vallecillo by 6-round unanimous decision in his most recent bout on June 24, 2011. After a nine-month layoff, Belmontes looks forward to getting back in the ring and fighting the rest of his way to the top. “Everyone in the boxing world knows Main Events. They are a big company that can get me where I need to be in the rankings, and into a world title fight,” said Belmontes. “That's what I want. Fighting is what I do.” Manager, Adrian Clark added, “Jerry is a big star in Corpus Christi, and the rest of the world is going to love him too. I call him the Mexican Floyd Mayweather. He's a speed fighter who prides himself on his defense and not getting touched.” “Jerry has all the attributes that we look for in a fighter,” Duva said. “He is skilled and exciting, he has a large local fan following in Corpus and he has the potential to become a world champion. We are delighted to add Jerry to the Main Events roster and expect great things from him going forward.” She continued, “we are also excited to return to Corpus Christi, where Main Events has promoted many fights in the past. Corpus has always been one of my favorite cities.” Belmontes joins Main Events as one of its elite young prospects, and is expected to fight under the promoter's banner for the first time in May in a bout to be televised on Telefutura's Solo Boxeo Tecate. Details about the show will be released in the coming weeks. |
