James DeGale Fights in Canada on May 17

London (May 14)WBC Silver super-middleweight champio James DeGale is excited to be fighting on May 17: “I just want to show my fans what I’m made of, show them what I’ve got and show them what I’m about.”

The former 2008 Olympic gold medalist vows to give his best on his North American debut when he fights Sebastien Demers at Casino Lac-Leamy, Gatineau, Canada, May 17.

“I’m feeling good, very good, I haven’t been out of the gym since the beginning of the year,” DeGale said.

“Obviously I’ve had a couple of fights cancelled on me and postponed, but obviously I’m a true professional – I’ve been in the gym training hard and I’m just looking forward to going out to Canada on May 17th.

“It means a lot to be making my debut in North America, obviously I travelled a lot as an amateur, travelled the world, but I haven't done too much as a pro to be honest.

“With Mick Hennessy and Hennessy Sports’ contacts out in Canada I’ve got this opportunity, so I’m really looking forward to it.

“I just want to show my fans what I’m made of, show them what I’ve got and show them what I’m about.

“I want to put on a great performance out there – slick, skilful, showcase my skills and put on a fantastic show.”

For DeGale, this will be his first fight since dominating former IBO super-middleweight champion Fulgencio Zuniga in Hull back in December, after his clash with Alexander Brand, set for March, was postponed.

Now DeGale will come face to face with Canadian fighter Demers, who fought Arthur Abraham for the IBF middleweight title in 2007 and boasts 31 wins in 36 fights.

The pair meet at Casino Lac-Leamy, Gatineau, Canada, with EOTTM (Eye of the Tiger Management) and Hennessy Sports promoting the event.

“I can't wait to get out to Canada on the 17th of May, fight, put on a great performance and move on and keep on progressing,” DeGale said.

“Boxing is big out there, it’s one of their biggest sports, they’ve got some great fighters – so in the future I could be fighting over there again in another big fight.

“I want to put on a good performance and let everyone take note, because, like I said before, this is my year, 2013 is going to be my year.”

The fight will be shown live on Wealth TV, and after making two successful appearances on the channel in his last two contests, the WBC SIlver champion will be looking to make number three his best performance yet.

The fight will be subject to British Boxing Board approval.
