DIERRY JEAN RETURNS IN FRONT OF HIS HOMETOWN CROWD IN MONTREAL
Montreal, May 28th, 2014 – Quebec’s Dierry « Dougy Style» Jean (25-1, 17 KOs) makeshis long awaited return to Montreal as the headliner of Eye of the Tiger Management’s 9th installment of the popular Fight Club Series on Friday, June 13th at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau. On the line, Dierry has the opportunity to get his hands on the NABF Lightweight title should he be victorious against Mexico’s Daniel Ruiz (32-7-2, 22 KOs).
This will be Jean’s first return since his IBF World title bout against Lamont Peterson featured on Showtime networks. Coming short of bringing the title back to home soil, Jean’s performance has solidified his place amongst the world’s elite fighters. “We made a strategic decision to exploit various opportunities in two weight classes, lightweight and super lightweight, in the goal of obtaining a world title shot as soon possible. June13th will provide a solid test for Dierry seeing as Ruiz is a dangerous puncher in the lightweight division and has victories over some of the best pugilists in the division such as Jamie Kavanagh”, mentions Camille Estephan, president of Eye of the Tiger Management.
In the co-main event, Andy Gardiner (10-1, 6 KOs), will cross fire with Ontario’s undefeated slugger, Steve Franjic (11-0-1, 6 KOs). Already being billed as the all Canadian version of Arturro Gatti vs Micky Ward, this particular 10 round contest is one of the most anticipated bouts by fight fans across the country. “Andy and Steve have crossed paths three times in the amateurs and it’s a fight both of them have wanted since they’ve turned pro. Gardiner won two out of three however all three were very close bouts fought entirely on the inside in a violent affair. This isn’t the amateurs and Andy is ready to put a close to this rivalry. This time, very convincingly. This fight isn’t for the feint hearted!” laughs Eric Belanger, head trainer of Gatineau Quebec’s warrior Andy Gardiner.
On the undercard, Mian Hussain (8-0, 4 KOs) looks to conquer his first belt in the NABF Youth Welterweight title. Also featured will be the newly crowned WBC Fecarbox champion Schiller Hyppolite (11-1. 8 KOs), Ayaz Hussain (1-0, 1 KO) Steven Butler (2-0, 1 KO), Mitch Louis-Charles (4-1-2, 2 KOs) and Mario Perez (15-5-4, 9 KOs) will also see action.
