VICTORIA ARGUETA VS. ALONDRA GARCIA
LOS ANGELES (August 7) – Unbeaten in 30 professional fights, super bantamweight standout Andres “Jaguar” Gutierrez will look to keep his “0” intact on Saturday, August 9, when he defends his WBC Silver Championship at home against Mexico City's Mario “Huracan” Macias at the Auditorio Jose Maria Arteaga in Queretaro, Mexico.
This 12-round main event will be broadcast on Televisa and FOX Deportes, along with a 10-round co-main event featuring the IBF Female Minimumweight Title Fight between Mexico City's Victoria Argueta and Guadalajara's Alondra Garcia.
Currently ranked number one in the world by the WBC, Andres “Jaguar” Gutierrez (29-0-1, 22 KOs) is a super bantamweight phenom closing in on 30 wins and a world title shot at the age of 21. The owner of several regional titles over the course of his career, the Querétaro, Méxiconative has owned the WBC Silver belt since 2013, and he's looking forward to making his third defense this weekend.
Fresh from the biggest win of his career, an eighth-round technical knockout of highly-touted Braulio Santos in March, 29-year-old Mario “Huracan” Macias (26-12, 13 KOs) hopes to deliver another upset victory on Saturday against Gutierrez. A nine-year pro who challenged for the WBA World Bantamweight Title in 2011, Macias is now hoping to move up the 122-pound ladder in the coming months.
Three months removed from her title-winning effort against Nancy Franco in May, IBF Minimumweight Champion Victoria Argueta (12-1, 4 KOs) will defend her belt for the first time on Saturday, and this talented 23-year-old has every intention on staying on top for a long time.
Winner of nine of her 10 pro bouts, 19-year-old Alondra “Magnifica” Garcia (9-1, 1 KO) has been competing professionally since 2012, and now she is on the verge of becoming a world champion. In her most recent fight, Garcia outpointed Montserrat Alarcon in May, and now she's ready for Argueta.
Gutierrez vs. Macias, a 12-round bout for the WBC Silver Super Bantamweight Title, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 5 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 6 p.m. CT. The FOX Deportes broadcast begins at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT and the Televisa broadcast airs at 10:30 p.m. CT.
