Below are quotes from the Press Conference held at The Palm Restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles.
Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez
“Thanks to God, a great champion like Sosa and Teiken Promotions along with HBO and K2 Promotions for making this happen. I’m honored to fight at the Forum where my idol,
Alexis Arguello fought four times.”
“I believe this fight will steal the night.”
“I dedicate this fight to all of Nicaragua.”
Edgar Sosa
“The Forum is a great arena and I’m honored to fight there.”
“Many of my heroes have fought at the Forum.”
“I feel great and will be ready for victory on May 16th.”
“I’m honored to have this opportunity against Roman and will make the most of it.
I’m thankful to everyone involved, HBO, K2, Teiken and Zanfer Promotions.”
Tom Loeffler/K2 Promotions
‘This is a rare opportunity for boxing fans to see two of the top “Pound For Pound” fighters in their prime on the same show.”
“This card is reminiscent of many of the legendary cards from the past at the Forum.”
“In just two weeks we’ve already sold over 5,000 tickets, that’s a faster pace than GGG’s last fight in October that completely sold out StubHub.”
“This outstanding double header shows boxing fans will respond to a quality product.”
“We’d like to acknowledge the great work of Mauricio Sulaiman and the World Boxing Council on behalf of fighters who have fallen on hard times.”
“Thanks very much to HBO, our strategic TV partner in the US for making this event possible. With their support we’re able to put together this excellent double header featuring two of the best fighters in the world.”
“For Roman this is very similar to the opportunity Gennady had against Proksa, the first time on HBO to impress the fans. The fight against Proksa being on HBO changed everything for Gennady.”
We would like to thank Mr. Honda and Teiken Promotions and Fernando Beltran and Zanfer Promotions for agreeing to make this fight, both fighters agreed very quickly to fight each other and this championship fight is a great addition to our show and a treat for the fans.
Peter Nelson/HBO
“This event was the media creating the demand for Gennady and Chocolatito to
appear on the same card.”
“I’m thrilled that Roman Gonzalez vs. Edgar Sosa is happening on HBO, it’s been 20 years since the last flyweight fight on HBO.”
“These two fighters fight at an elite level and they merit the opportunity to fight on HBO.”
“Looking forward to seeing all of you on May 16th.”
Carlos Blandon, Manager of Gonzalez
“Thanks to the media for the terrific turnout and to HBO, Tom Loeffler, Teiken Promotions and Zanfer Promotions for all working together.”
