Premier Boxing Champions Hits San Antonio on Dec. 12th
Mike Battah and Leija-Battah Promotions are at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas with a massive 16 fight card that sees the main events air on NBC as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.
The feature fight sees undefeated and highly regarded Super Lightweight Omar Figueroa Jr. (25-0-1) take on veteran former Lightweight world champion Antonio DeMarco (31-5-1).
DeMarco has dropped two in a row, however the two have been to undefeated contenders Jesse Vargas and Rances Barthelemy, so he is still fighting at a very high level and could provide a good test for Figueroa.
Figueroa has been set as a (-1000) favorite at the sport books, with the return on DeMarco at (+650).
Heavyweight action is front and center in the co-featured bouts, as veteran Chris Arreola (36-4-1) returns to take on the Travis Kauffman (30-1).
Arreola has fallen short of taking his career to the next level several times, most recently losing a pair of fights to Bermane Stiverne that saw Stiverne end up with a piece of the WBC World title.
Arreola enters the fight a (-190) betting favorite, with his opponent Kauffman returning at (+165).
Another Heavyweight bout on the card sees undefeated Olympian Dominic Breazeale (16-0) taking on undefeated Charles Martin (22-0-1) in a 10 round bout.
This match has taken on added importance recently when WBC World Champion Deontay Wilder’s negotiations with Vyacheslav Glazkov for a January 16th date at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center fell through, raising Charles Martin to the status of WBC mandatory challenger.
Breazeale will want to crash that party, and he will get the chance to do that on Saturday in San Antonio.
Also on the card in a 10 round welterweight bout is “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (30-5-2), who is returning after a layoff of a year to face Orlando Lora, who is (31-6-2) overall but has gone (5-6-1) in his last twelve fights.
Contrary to Ortiz, he has been busy as he has gone (2-1) already in three fights during 2015.
The supporting card features tons of the area’s best talent including undefeated Featherweights Adam Lopez and Mario Barrios, both of whom are (13-0).
Of special interest on the undercard, 18 year old Brandon Figueroa fights in just the fourth fight of his career as he takes on Francisco Muro (2-1).
Brandon is the younger brother of headliner Omar Figueroa Jr. and he figures to have a lot of crowd support on hand.
Once again, that is promoter Mike Battah with a giant 16 fight card this Saturday, December 12th.
