Nadjib Mohammadi Fights TONIGHT; “Mo Ready To Go”
“Mo is ready to go!” our man Vince Caruso told me, barely able to contain his boundless enthusiasm as he ticked down the hours until his Nadjib Mohammedi was set to fight Lee Campell in Montreal, on the Kovalev-Pascal underdcard.
Caruso, an American advisor to Mo, born in France and signed to Main Events, said that “Mo is on the best shape of his life.”
No wonder; the 30-year-old light heavy in his second fight working with the esteemed Abel Sanchez. Therefore, we might want to watch his trajectory a bit harder, being that he’s ranked No. 1 by the IBF, and gets to fight the IBF champ in his next bout, if things go to plan. Kovalev holds the IBF strap and plans to keep it..
Mo (36-3 with 22 KOs), Caruso told me, has been side by side with Gennady Golovkin at Camp Sanchez, not sparring, but watching his ways, and that too is helping to round him out as a fighter. “He’s ripped like a super middle,” Caruso said. Sparring multiple rounds with Curtis Stevens has got him ring-ready, Caruso reports. Also, rounds with Julius Jackson sharpened his edge.
His losses came in 2010, to Nathan Cleverly, and 2011, to Dmitriy Sukhotskiy, but caruso says he’s improved quite measurably since, and I’m inclined to not disagree, especially since he’s been getting tutored by Sanchez.
Caruso clearly loves the work ethic of Mo, who is advised also by Jon Ali.
“If I’m ever in a bar fight, I’d bring Mo with me! Him and any one of the Hilton brothers! And we’re coming out with not a scratch!”
Caruso said he wanted a better name, a Marcus Oliveria or a Cedric Agnew, but 8-1 Campbell will have to do. He expects Mo to impress, and then surprise to the upside when he gets in with Kovalev, presumably.
I like his aggressive pride when he says, “Mo should have been on HBO already, but we got to take what we got. And we’re ready to rumble!”
