Diana Prazak vs. Layla McCarter Power Matchup in the BKB Pit

Diana Prazak remains one of the top knockout punchers in the world of female prizefighting. It’s no surprise she was asked to participate in Big Knockout Boxing 2.

But why Layla McCarter?

Australia’s heavy-handed Prazak (13-3, 9 Kos) meets Las Vegas star McCarter (36-13-5, 8 Kos) in the fearsome BKB pit on Saturday, April 4. The female showdown is one of many fights taking place at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The event will be televised on pay-per-view. (ED. NOTE: Who would know? Do they do any press?)

Prazak has no questions regarding McCarter’s power. She knows all about her.

“Everyone knows she is a very good boxer, but she can punch too,” said Prazak, who will be fighting at a catch weight of 133 for this fight. Normally 130 is her preferred weight class.

McCarter is recognized by many as the best female prizefighter pound for pound. For the past eight years no one has defeated the veteran of more than 50 fights. It’s a rare feat among females. Though most of her victories come by decision, she has power.

Two and a half years ago, McCarter needed a fight and only found South Africa’s junior middleweight Noni Tenge willing to meet her in the ring. Despite fighting a much taller and heavier girl, McCarter stopped the undefeated Tenge with a knockout blow in the eighth round.

McCarter has power.

“Usually I play it safe and look to win on points. If the knockout comes, it comes,” said McCarter. “But this is different. I don’t see it going the distance. I would like to finish it early because that’s what the people want.”

The soft-spoken amiable Prazak always speaks highly of opponents. But put on the gloves and she’s a human buzz saw looking to cut down anyone in front of her. She’s trained by Lucia Rijker, one of the most feared female fighters of all time.

Despite the limitations of two-minute rounds, Prazak has managed to win nine of her 13 fights via knockout. It’s a rare feat among female fighters, especially within a quick 120 seconds. Men fight three-minute rounds and are able to have more time to set up knockout blows.

Prazak has raw power.

“I’m honored to be part of this event,” said Prazak, whose last two victories arrived by knockout against Shannon O’Connell and Frida Wellberg. “It’s a good opportunity for women.”

David Estrada clashes with Khurshid Abdulaev in another junior middleweight showdown.

Several other bouts are scheduled.

Power numbers

All fighters will be strapped with electronic sensors to their wrist that can measure power punches. It’s a new invention to determine who packs actual power in their blows. It’s an interesting concept.

Fans will be able to see the tabulations emanating from the sensors.

The pay-per-view begins at 7 p.m.
