O2 Arena Sees Martin vs Joshua Saturday – Main Card Weigh-in Results
This Friday afternoon saw the weigh-ins go down in London for Saturday’s huge Matchroom Boxing card at the O2 Arena. The main event sees IBF World heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1) defend his title against Anthony Joshua (15-0).
The weigh-ins took place in front of a packed audience surrounding the stage and, as usual, the British fans were very vocal supporting their fighters. The British press, which is accustomed to heaping praise on Joshua, has deemed the athletic fighter to be in the best shape of his life “with muscles upon muscles and muscles on his eyes.” Although Martin is not as muscle-bound, when they lined up and faced each other there wasn't much to choose between them — from a physical standpoint, this is a very even match. The weigh-in results for the main card are starting to come in.
Joshua weighed in at 17 stones 6 lbs (244 lbs) with Martin coming in one pound heavier, at 17 stones and 7 lbs (245 lbs).
In the IBF featherweight title fight, Lee Selby weighed 8 stone 13 lbs 1 ounce (125.1 lbs) and Eric Hunter 8 stone 13 lbs and 4 ounces (125.3 lbs).
Jamie McDonnell weighed 8st 5lbs 6oz (117.3 lbs). His opponent Fernando Vargas failed to make the weight of 118 lbs the first time on the scales.
Brian Rose weighed in at 11st 5lbs 5oz. (159.3 lbs) while opponent Matthew Macklin came in weighing 11st 5lbs 7oz (159.4 lbs).
Andy Keates weighed 9st 8lbz 2oz (134.1 lbs) and his opponent Ohara Davies tipped the scales at 9st 8lbs 9oz (134.6 lbs).
The main events are set to air on SKY TV in the United Kingdom and on Showtime in the United States on Saturday, April 9th so check your local listings. You do not want to miss Charles Martin vs Anthony Joshua at the O2 Arena. It is all over now but the action in the ring. Will Joshua's muscles help him against Martin, or will Martin leave England with the IBF belt still around his waist?
