Sunday Boxing by Thompson Boxing: Ruben Torres and More on $6 PPV

West L.A.’s Ruben Torres looks to deliver a Sunday punch this weekend as he guns for his fourth consecutive knockout.

It won’t be easy.

The undefeated Torres (12-0, 10 KOs) meets Chile’s strong Oscar Bravo (25-9, 11 KOs) in the eight-round super lightweight main event on Sunday July 26. The Thompson Boxing Promotion card will not allow fans to attend but the show can be watched on pay-per-view live.

Torres, 22, has burned through his last three foes with a savagery not seen in his earlier bouts. The intensity level seems to have corresponded with the opposition’s experience levels -the better the foe the better he fights. He will be facing a very durable and experienced opponent in Bravo.

Bravo, 32, has faced superior competition and has that durability that should test Torres. In previous encounters the Chilean fighter has exchanged blows with Felix Verdejo, Sharif Bogere and Saul “Neno” Rodriguez. All of these fighters possess massive firepower but were unable to stop Bravo.

It’s a very interesting match-up.

In other bouts, Texas contender Michael Dutchover (13-1, 10 KOs) returns to the fight with an eight round lightweight clash against Jorge Marron Jr. (18-1, 6 KOs) in the co-main event.

The last time Dutchover fought was a televised battle that saw the Midland, Texas native suffer a cut from a punch and lose by technical knockout. The referee stopped the competitive fight held in his hometown in the eighth round.

A third and final bout features Arnold Dinong (6-0, 1 KO) facing Brandon Cruz (6-1, 4 KOs) in a six-round featherweight fight. It’s a competitive match pitting Northern California’s Dinong versus Southern California’s Cruz.

Despite the lack of fans, the Southern California-based promotion company has a large number of pro fighters and has been unable to stage fights.

“We thought about it a lot and came up with this plan,” said Alex Camponovo of Thompson Boxing Promotions. “We need to get our fighters in the boxing ring.”

Ironically, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this fight card will be held in an outdoor venue at Omega Products International in Corona, California. It will be held under strict guidelines generated by the California State Athletic Commission.

The public will not be allowed and only 70 people designated as essential to the boxing card will be allowed inside the structured boxing compound. The building is owned by Thompson Boxing Promotions president Ken Thompson.

“We decided to put the fights on a Sunday to avoid conflicts with other events,” said Camponovo. “Fans can enjoy the fights at home with a cool bottle of beer for only six dollars and change.”

This Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
