Floyd Apologizes To Oscar For Insensitive Instagram Post
Team Floyd Mayweather released a statement on Tuesday morning, apologizing for an innappropriate Instagram rendering of Oscar De La Hoya, the former fighter and current promoter who last week checked himself into rehab.
Above Oscar’s head shot, the text read, “Meanwhile In Rehab,” and beneath his visage, it read, “Oscar: I Gave Canelo The Wrong Blueprint I Was High.” It was floating around the Web after Mayweather downed Canelo Sunday morning in Las Vegas.
Oscar had predicted Canelo would knock out Mayweather, and weighed in over the last few months with advice on how to get the better of “Money.” Both men stated that they have no personal enmity towards each other, which could stem from their 2007 faceoff.
I am not certain, but I would assume the graphic was floating around, and whoever handles Floyd’s Instagram account found it amusing, and posted it.
Here is the Floyd statement:
It’s unfortunate that a stupid picture was posted to my Instagram account earlier today that was not posted by me or authorized by me to post.
As I clearly stated during my fight week and again in the post-fight press conference, I completely support Oscar De La Hoya and his family during this difficult time in his life. Although we have had our differences in the past, I stand by him unconditionally and would never personally disrespect him or anyone else who struggles with addiction.
I apologize to Oscar and his family for this posting. I wish him well and am rooting for him to win his fight too. I also apologize to all of my followers for this ridiculous post. I have no ill-will towards anyone and have repeatedly stated that I only seek positivity in my life and for others.
