WARD RETURN SET: P4P Roc Ace Fighting June 20
His talents are undeniable, his innate skill as a prizefighter keeps him regarded as a top 5, or higher, pound for pound guy even though he hasn’t gloved up since November 2013.
But that shall soon change for Andre Ward, the Oakland, CA based pugilist/specialist who forms the building block of the Roc Nation boxing arm, along with Miguel Cotto.
Ward, possessing a 27-0 (14 Ks) mark, told me that he’s readying himself to rumble on June 20, in Oakland. And pray tell who will be his partner to do the fistic waltz on that date? “That’s coming soon,” he said. “I’m ready for whoever it is though.”
The weight isn’t cemented, he said, and he is open to moving to 175 soon, but it is likely this one will be at super middle.
Maybe Carl Froch? No, he said, the Brit wouldn’t dare come to Oakland.
Maybe if he went to England, and tied one hand behind his back..and agreed to weigh 160, Ward cracked. “He should believe in himself,” Ward said.
The TV platform will be announced shortly, word is.
Ward didn’t want to play the name game, he told me, and he said he isn’t a chaser type. “These fighters should want to fight me,” he said. Guys play ducking games, he stated, and that’s weak, basically.
“I’m excited, I’m happy, but even more so for my fans, who have been extremely patient, not just the Bay Area, but all over the world,” he said.
“I’m back,” he said, and I could hear the smile on his face.
