SORTA SUPER OUTING: Adonis Beats Bika, UD12
Haitian-Canadian Adonis Stevenson welcomed 168er Sakio Bika from Cameroon to the 175 class, rudely. His left hand troubled the visitor, sending him to the mat twice. Bika hung in, and landed some shots late, but really, it was all Adonis. He was in total control of the tone and pace and though he tried to finish off the up-in-weight foe, we went to the cards. They did the right thing, and gave Stevenson the win, UD.
The scores were 115-111, 116-110, 115-110, but the fight was not at all that close, take my word for it, friends.
In the first, the 25-1 Kronk boxer, who received instruction from the late-great Emanuel Steward, went to work. He jabbed and dropped his power left on Bika, who lives in Australia (32-6-3 entering).
In the second, we saw Adonis jab, jab, jab. He ate a left hook, but was in control of the pace and tone. A counter left by Adonis scored nicely.
In the third, a left counter by Adonis had the crowd jazzed. They were clinching a good deal now.
In the fourth, Adonis was in control. Bika went down off a left in round five, no, it was a slip. Or was it? A blinder jab-left follow stung him, for sure. In the sixth, Adonis grinned while Bika tried in vain to flurry. A left sent Bika down. Was it the power or from being off balance? 32 seconds remained…and he made it to the close.
In the seventh, we saw Adonis controlling all elements, though Bika did land an solid shot. In the eighth, Bika was happy to have Adonis on the ropes late, but he still didn’t win a round. In the ninth, Adonis cracked with a left, and another one sent Bika down, late. In the tenth, Adonis was in total control, seeking to end it, but knowing Bika is a tough nut.
In the 11th, Bika landed a right. Was Adonis gassing? In the 12th, Bika landed a right, as Adonis backed up. The action heated up as Adonis’ legs got more weary. He Ali shuffled to end it. We went to the cards..
