“Big Drama Show” Coming May 16, Says Golovkin
Gennady Golovkin promised a “big drama show” on May 16, and said that he expects foe Willie Monroe to be a stern test in a bout which will unfold in LA, and run on HBO.
Promoter Tom Loeffler, repping GGG, said fans will enjoy the action May 16, and that will be a contrast from what they received on May 2, on a Tuesday conference call.
He said Monroe, from Rochester, NY, will be a test, and that he is a slick lefty. He said that there will be no backlash from MayPac, that fans will appreciate even more the drama show. He said that fans will leave the venue with a smile.
Gennady promised a “big show,” and said, of the #MayPac bout, that Floyd is too smart, and that Manny has dipped some.
And could Floyd be next for him? He’s a great champ, super smart, and GGG would like that “drama show.”
Trainer Abel Sanchez said Monroe could be the best of the last five guys GGG has met and thinks we could get five or six rounds of action before GGG finishes him off. A lefty is a good idea to prep for, for instance, an Erislandy Lara if he came to 160.
Monroe, in his time, sounded confident. He agreed that a win by him would be one of the bigger upsets in 30 years, and said he’s been the underdog since “the womb.”
Trainer Tony Morgan said camp has been “flawles” and that his brush with the law hasn’t been an interruption at all. Monroe has deceptive power, he told us. He also said flat footed guys get hammered by GGG, his guy isn’t like that.
The fighter, who called Morgan the best trainer in the world, said he likes the style of Hector Camacho, and wants to blaze his own trail, that he is is his own man, and doesn’t much refer to the legacy of fighters Willie Monroe Sr., his dad, and great uncle Willie the Worm.
The underdog said he expected MayPac to be what it was, and is glad it’s over, so talk of it will cease. (LOL, good luck on that!).
There you have it, gang; thoughts on May 16? Could the dog get the bone?
