ALL ACCESS RECAP: Floyd Brags, Flashes Cash, Shops, Hypes Foe, More
ALL ACCESS on Friday night kicked off with a look back, at Floyd Mayweather’s six fight deal signing, and the present, a Sept. 12 clash against Andre Berto.
The last time we will see “TBE,” we heard…
Do you believe it? Time tells us…
Floyd’s kids cavort and look at old photos, with dad, who chuckles at old pics on this Showtime docu-series.
He brags, that no one has done it like him, as he’s on a jet.
His time in the ring is drawing to a close, the narrator says.
Berto, Floyd says, is the guy who can bring the best out of him. Berto isn’t in boring fights, it is noted…but Floyd makes ’em look boring, because he makes it one sided, Berto notes.
Next, Berto says that he darn well deserves the opp. They do a staredown, for a promo shoot and some Floyd and Berto people jaw and beef mildly.
Floyd discusses his plan to get to here. Talk smack and back it up…
We see him at his boxing gym, and we hear him rap pathetically, great god it was horrid.
He brags about eating like crap and hanging with chicks and notes that he’s still unbeatable. He needs to just six weeks to train to win, he says. He says he whups whoever the media and fans clamor for him to fight…so they can stop that.
Guess that means no Golovkin, then…
He has a great work ethic, though, we hear. He holds a parcel of cash while working out, for motivation, and acolytes chuckle. Then, he shops. He also says he’s growing closer to his kids, and he’s now happier. “I’m not sad at all that this is my last show,” he says.
A daughter says she will be happy to spend more time with him. Then he talks about ending the in ring work. He just wants to spend the rest of his life, every day, with his kids.
Then Berto says he’s been getting a crazy amount of texts, hearing from old galpals. He musta thought I was one, as he ignored three of mine when I heard he was getting the gig. And he’s a guy I’ve talked to for a long time, and someone I lauded for backing the cause after Mike Brown was murdered. Whatcha gonna do?
We hear about his rise to the top, to a path to Mayweather. But he lost to Victor Ortiz, and Ortiz got the lottery ticket. He said he didn’t train right for the scrap. He then hooked on with Virgil Hunter, and that has helped him improve, it is said. “When I first met him, his confidence wasn’t high,” Hunter said. Berto wasn’t dialed into training, the trainer said.
Then, we see a non boxer sparring at Floyd’s gym. And he gets knocked down. Acolytes giggle and mock the guy…
Floyd next talks about Boston Celtic Isaiah Thomas; he brags he taught him how to play basketball. They play some pickup…
Next, Berto runs against bands. This is his first fight as an underdog, he says, so he will work twice as hard. His speed coach Aaron Thigpen says it will be a “completely different Andre Berto.” Yeah, we tickin’ all da boxes, lol…
Berto’s diet is better; he has a live in chef cooking healthy fare. Berto busts on the chef for eating with him, now that the camera is there. The chef has a dog that Berto doesn’t like or pretends not to like.
Then, we see Floyd’s Uncle Roger getting an award from the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame, and we see Roger looking a bit out of it. It’s complications from diabetes, says Floyd, but he has said Roger sometimes doesn’t know who he is, and wanders away from places, and people need to hunt for him, which sounds like a dementia situation. Nothing pleasant about that, no matter if you are a fan of the man or his family or any of that.
Mayweather next says he took from the greats, and took some from each, and says it’s no disrespect to call himself TBE, at that Hall ceremony.
Historic upset or historic record, that’s what we get Sept. 12, we are told.
All told, nothing new, really, to see here. It was what it was, maybe interesting to someone coming to TBE from out of the cold. You get one or two interesting nuggets from these, after all this time. This time, there was no reefer smoking session, sadly.
Next ALL ACCESS runs Friday, Sept. 4.
