PBC on Fox Sports 1 Results – Flores Decisions Briones
The Premier Boxing Champions and their “Toe To Toe Tuesdays” series on FOX Sports 1 kicked off the 2016 calendar on January 12th with a packed nine fight card live at the Cowboy Dance Hall in San Antonio, Texas.
The 10 round main event came at Super Featherweight, where undefeated 23 year old Miguel Flores (18-0) was facing the experienced Mario Briones (27-4-2). Flores punished Briones throughout the fight, busting him up and swelling his face, but the game Mexican Briones would not go down. Flores too received a cut above his eye as the match saw the blood pour. In the end, it was Flores who won on the judges cards, via scores of 100-90 from judge Glen Crocker, 100-90 from judge Joel Elizondo and 98-92 from judge Ellis Johnson.
At Light Heavyweight, undefeated Egyptian-born prospect Ahmed Elbiali looked impressive in defeating veteran Andrew Hernandez via unanimous decision. Elbiali now moves to (14-0) overall, and though he has 11 stoppage wins already under his belt, this is his second decision win in a row. Though it is a good sign that Elbiali managed the eight rounds well without needing the KO, Elbiali is still green and there are tests and hurdles he will have to cross to be considered a true prospect.
The second co-featured eight round bout came at welterweight, where undefeated Bryant Perrella moved his record to (12-0) with a two round starching of veteran Ramon Ayala (25-6-1), who could not answer the bell to start round three. Perrella now boasts a (14-0) record with 13 of his wins coming by way of the stoppage.
On the undercard, Leduan Barthlemey (7-0), who is the brother of world champion Rances Barthelemy, stopped Heriberto Delgado late in the third round. Barthelemy, the ultra talented Cuban transplant used a paralyzing right hook to finish the fight.
With the fearure fights of the night airing on Fox Sports 1, Brandon Figueroa had his 6 round match with Harold Reyes bumped until after the main events and the night saw the 19 year old brother of WBC World Lightweight champion Omar Figueroa Jr. run his record to (5-0). The young Figueroa showed he could in-fight in the early going, landing damaging shots on the inside that took their toll on Reyes. In the end, Figueroa earned the TKO in the sixth round to close out the night in style.
