March 12th Thurman vs Porter Title Bout Gets Support

Thurman vs Porter Title Bout – Promoter Lou DiBella and DiBella Entertainment have put together a major card for March 12 at the Mohegan Sun.  The main event sees WBA World Welterweight champion Keith Thurman defend his belt against Shawn Porter and the fight will air on CBS as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.

That fight has been on the books for a while, but this past week saw the announcement of the undercard and support fights.  Fights are set to air both on CBS and on Showtime from what is developing into a big event.  The support fights come in two of the hottest weight classes out there, as a Pair of Light Heavy weight bouts and a Featherweight bout have been added.

Light Heavyweight Edwin Rodriguez faces Thomas Williams Jr in the event’s co-feature.  Though Williams Jr has logged several appearances on TV (Spike, ESPN2) in the last couple of years, this is considered a step-up fight for Williams Jr.  Rodriguez is best remembered for his November 2013 fight against Andre Ward, where he sustained his only loss.  Since then, he has gone 4-0 with three wins by knock out.

The Featherweight bout between Abner Mares and Fernando Montiel is sure to bring a lot of heat, as both Mexican are pride filled former world champions who are looking to move back into the top echelon of the weight class.  Montiel is 36 and his best days are behind him, but his last outing saw him put on a credible performance in defeat against IBF World Featherweight champion Lee Selby. In Mares, he gets another fighter coming off a loss as Mares last fought in August of 2015 when le lost to Leo Santa Cruz.

Also returning on this card is Light Heavyweight Chad Dawson, who is waiting for an opponent to be finalized. Dawson is a former IBF World Light Heavyweight champion, but he is 2-3 in his last five fights and is looking to win a second fight in a row for the first time since back in 2009.

March 12th Thurman vs Porter Title Bout Gets Support

The main event between Keith Thurman and Sean Porter is set to air on CBS/Showtime starting at 7:30 PM Central Standard Time on the 12^th of March.

Look for undercard fights to be added to the live event as fight day draws closer.
