Results from Tuesday’s PBC Boxing Show in Bethlehem, PA
Tuesday’s PBC Boxing Show – With his stablemate Adrien Broner rooting him on, former U.S. Olympian Jamel Herring advanced to 15-0 (8 KOs) with a lopsided 10-round decision over Columbia’s Luis Eduardo Flores in the main event of a 7-bout card at the Sands Event Center in Bethlehem, Pa. This was the first main event for Herring, a 30-year-old ex-Marine who served two tours of duty in Iraq.
Herring had a big second round and was credited with two knockdowns in the fifth when he caught his adversary off-balance, but the stubborn Flores, who entered the contest with a 21-2 ledger, stayed the course. Herring pitched a shutout on two of the scorecards and won nine rounds on the other.
The Herring-Flores lightweight contest and two 8-round bouts comprised the televised portion of the show, a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) production aired on FS1 and on Fox Deportes.
In one of the two main undercard bouts, southpaw Alex Martin, a former National Golden Gloves champion, scored a unanimous decision over Nicaragua’s Rossemberth Gomez in a welterweight match. The scores were 80-72 twice and 79-73. Martin improves to 12-0 (5 KOs). Gomez dips to 17-5-1.
Lightweight Raynell Williams likewise kept his record unblemished with a unanimous decision over Gabriel Tolmajyan. Williams, a 2008 Olympian, won comfortably on the scorecards, but Tolmajyan landed the best punch of the night when he wobbled Williams with an overhand left in the final stanza. Williams improved his ledger to 11-0 (5 KOs). Tolmajyan slipped to 14-5-2.
In other bouts, welterweight David Gonzalez (6-0-2) scored a fourth round TKO over Justin Johnson (6-10-4), Carlos Rosario (3-1) won a split decision over Victor Vasquez (4-1) in a 4-round lightweight contest, and super bantamweight Jordan White (1-0) blew away Manuel Rubelcava (2-15) in the opening round.
