Jorge Arce Facing Charges in California, Due in Court March 28

Jorge Arce Facing Charges – Former Light Fly and Flyweight world champion Jorge “El Travieso” Arce of Mexico is in trouble with the law in Southern California and is facing charges that may include sexual assault. He was detained Sunday evening in Orange County and released when he posted $25,000 bail after spending several hours in custody. Arce is reported to be heading back to Los Mochis, but he will have to be back in court on March 28th to answer charges.
Arce is said to have been staying at the Embassy Suites in Anaheim, as he was participating on the Spanish-language broadcast of Saturday night’s Leo Santa Cruz vs Kiko Martinez bout from the Honda Center. A hotel employee is the one making the accusations against Arce. Reports state part of the claim is that Arce forced her to perform oral sex. More details from Orange County were not immediately available and it is not clear whether Arce may be facing additional charges.
Arce’s brother Francisco “Panchito” Arce stated that the ex-champion was deeply “saddened” by the accusations, but that he had retained a lawyer and would face the charges calmly. “The woman making the accusations can say many things, but Jorge has the strength to face the accusations and keep on living,” said the brother.
Arce last fought in October of 2014 when he was stopped by rival Jhonny Gonzalez. The 36 year old has an overall career mark of 64 wins, 8 losses and 2 draws.
Arce is quite a popular figure in fight-hungry Mexico, and this is the first recorded instance of legal issues surrounding “El Travieso”. His nickname loosely translates as the “menace” or “naughty one”, but he has stayed busy in the time since his last fight participating in a reality show as well as broadcasting.
Arce briefly spoke of a counter-suit, but his lawyers have advised him to see what the March 28th date has in store. More details to come as they become available.
