March 12th Sees The Return of Zab Judah

The Return of Zab Judah – This Saturday, March 12th sees the return of former two weight class world champion Zab Judah (42-9) as he is set to face Josh Torres (15-4-2) at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. Promoter Roy Englebrecht has seven fights on the card, and the feature fights are set to air on the CBS Sports Network as part of a newly conceived series ““Knockout Night at the D”. Check your local listings for start times.
Judah has not fought since his December of 2013 all-Brooklyn showdown with Paulie Malignaggi at the Barclays Center. In that fight, Judah started out fast but faded after three rounds and he lost a wide unanimous decision (116-111,117-110,117-110.) Dating back to 2011, Judah has gone 1-3, though his losses are to Danny Garcia and Amir Khan as well as Malignaggi, so he was fighting at a high level in his most recent appearances.
The rhetoric from the Judah camp has been straightforward. He wants to win a sixth world title. He has moved out to Las Vegas, and in 2015 he served as a sparring partner for Floyd Mayweather Jr as he prepared for his bout with Manny Pacquiao, and that experience left him in shape and feeling that he “still had it”.
The Return of Zab Judah
Torres falls under the category of a ‘safe” opponent. The 26 year old out of Albuquerque, New Mexico went 2-1 in 2015, picking up the vacant WBC United States Super Lightweight title in April with a win over Ranee Ganoy (36-11-2), but he dropped the belt in an August outing against Cameron Kreal (7-7-2). One of his losses came via UD to prospect Dusty Hernandez Harrison as a welterweight, but he has no one on his resume with the pedigree of Judah.
The entire card as it stands today appears below.
