Lucas Browne Court Hearing Postponed
Lucas Browne Court Hearing Postponed – Former WBA heavyweight world champion Lucas Browne’s scheduled court date of July 21st in Tacoma, Washington was postponed. Attorneys for the two parties agreed to the delay, and the hearing was resheduled for August 4th.
Browne won the WBA heavyweight world title March 5th when he defeated Ruslan Chageav in Grozny, Russia by late round, come from behind KO. Shortly afterwards, he was stripped of the belt after testing positive for a performance enhancing substance, a charge he has adamantly denied. The bottom line is that Browne wants the belt back and wants compensation for the damage done to his reputation. His legal counsel is Leon Margules.
The WBA may have acted hastily in stripping Browne of the belt, and they took the additional action of returning the belt to Chagaev. With all the news around Russia, PEDs and the Olympics dominating the media, Browne’s defense becomes more credible. Browne believes his testing samples were tampered with while he was in Grozny.
Lucas Browne Court Hearing Postponed
Browne was issued a token six month suspension by the WBA retroactive to the March 5th date of the fight. This means that Browne will be eligible to return to action in September.
Browne’s name came out of the mouth of Peter Fury, the coach for cousins Tyson and Hughie Fury as a potential match for Hughie before the end of 2017. Browne is 37 years old now, and he is likely to want to return to the ring in short order. Fighting in England is not so far-fetched for Browne, who has fought in England a handful of times already and retains Ricky Hatton as a promoter in the British Isles. The big question for Browne will be whether or not he will return as the WBA world heavyweight champion. Barring another postponement, we will find out more on August 4th.
