Philippines vs Mexico At The StubHub Saturday

Philippines vs Mexico – Second-generation Filipino promoter Michael Aldeguer is back at the StubHub Center in Carson, California this Saturday night with a seven fight boxing card topped by WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes (38-1-4) who is moving up to the flyweight class to face veteran Edgar Sosa (52-9) for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental belt.
Nietes has held a piece of a world title since 2007. Sosa is a former world titleholder at light flyweight who at 37 is nearing the end of his career. In May of 2015 he was stopped in the second round by Nicaraguan phenom Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez in a bid for Gonzalez’s world flyweight title. Sosa bounced back with a win in a six round bout this past February.
For Nietes, who is 34 years old, the time to come out and perform on the world stage is now, but Aldeguer is packing additional talent from the Philippines to showcase in the States. WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion Arthur Villanueva (27-1) opposes Mexico’s Juan Jimenez (22-10) in a co-feature. The 27-year-old Villanueva won his title against Jimenez in May. This Saturday, Villanueva grants Jimenez a re-match at the StubHub.
The third co-feature is a 12 round bout that pits Mark Magsayo (14-0) against Ramiro Robles (13-5-1). The 21-year-old Magsayo may be the jewel of the Aldeguer stable. In his US debut back in October of 2015, he stopped once beaten Yardley Suarez (13-1) by knockout in the opening round and he recently stopped veteran Chris Avalos to claim the WBO International featherweight title. Aldeguer appears to be putting his charge in a position to gain valuable experience at an early age.
The fights air on the Spanish language cable station beIN in the United States. Check local listings for start times.
