Frampton vs Santa Cruz 2 Set – Undefeated WBA “super world” featherweight champion Carl Frampton (23-0) has taken to social media to announce that there is an agreement in place for a rematch former champion Leo Santa Cruz.
The first match between them went down at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn this past July 30th, and there has been talk of a rematch almost since the fight ended. Frampton and SKY Sports are confirming that a deal has been reached.

Frampton has also promised more news to come, and that likely means that the venue will be in Frampton’s hometown of Belfast where Frampton is a superstar. In his post-fight interview and in conversations in the days that followed, Santa Cruz expressed his desire for a rematch, encouraging Frampton to meet him in Los Angeles where Santa Cruz has a rabid following. Though a final announcement of a date and venue are still in the works, it is clear that Frampton noticed his Irish following in NYC bothered Santa Cruz, and the decibel level was nowhere near what it will be in Belfast if he defends against Santa Cruz there. Look for Frampton to rightfully invoke his champion’s prerogative. Hopefully the fight fits into the 2016 schedule.
Frampton vs Santa Cruz 2 Set
The first match between the two was a hard fought affair that will get consideration for “Fight of the Year.” Santa Cruz was 32-0-1 heading into his second world title defense at featherweight, while Frampton was moving up in weight and appeared to be giving up considerable height and reach advantages. Frampton unleashed a precise, tactical game on Santa Cruz that saw him negate the American’s advantages and strike with the more effective punching throughout the fight. In the end, two of the judges had the fight for Frampton 117-111 and 116-112 while the third judge had it a draw, 114-114. The first fight aired on SHOWTIME in the United States, peaking at a lukewarm half a million viewers. After the quality match the pair delivered the first time out, a re-match will hopefully score with a lot more viewers than the first time.
