Cincinnati Bad Boy Adrien Broner Arrested in a Bullet-Riddled SUV
INCORRIGIBLE ADRIEN BRONER — According to various reports, welterweight contender Adrien Broner was arrested shortly after midnight today (April 20) and spent four hours in police custody before being released on bond. Broner was stopped and arrested by Covington, Kentucky police as he was crossing into Kentucky in a rented Chevrolet SUV and was turned over to Cincinnati police who detained him on an open warrant. The vehicle he was driving was riddled with at least eight fresh bullet holes.
The shooting apparently stemmed from an altercation at the G-Money Bar on Queen City Avenue in Cincinnati. The unidentified shooter, according to Broner, followed him when he left the bar. According to Cincinnati Enquirer reporter Carrie Cochran, police were able to identify the area where the shooting occurred and recovered ten 9 mm shell casings. Broner escaped injury.
The 28-year-old Broner, aptly nicknamed “The Problem,” has won world titles in four weight classes ranging from 130 to 147 pounds. He has a 33-2 record, is ranked #2 by the WBA in the welterweight division, and his name has been mentioned as a future opponent of Manny Pacquiao. However, his ring accomplishments have been overshadowed by his repeated brushes with the criminal justice system.
At various times, Broner has been arrested for robbery, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, domestic violence, intimidation of a witness, and battery. He spent much of 2016 fighting felony assault and aggravated robbery charges related to an incident outside a Cincinnati bowling alley. Those charges were eventually dropped when his victim failed to show up in court. Broner himself failed to show up for some of the hearings and was jailed for his “oversights.”
Broner has also attracted notoriety for videos he posted on You Tube. One showed him having sex with two women, another depicted him using $20 bills as toilet paper, and a third showed him humiliating a Walmart cashier by making it rain.
Prior to his recent fight with Adrian Granados, Porter told reporters that the recent birth of a daughter had led him to reassess his life and that he was a changed man. “It’s not about me anymore,” said the repentant Broner. “It’s about my children.” According to veteran boxing writer Bernard Fernandez, the baby girl was Broner’s seventh child conceived by six different women.
Broner’s next court date is scheduled for April 27. This story will be updated as new details come available.
