LOS ANGELES-Hector Lopez Jr. won a bruising battle with Thomas Herrera by stoppage in a lightweight battle that was one of a dozen fights on Saturday’s All Star Boxing card at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel.

Lopez (9-0-1, 6 KOs) pleased a large following with his knockout win over the stubborn Herrera (9-19-1). The son of a California legend showed he has many tools too.

If Herrera was supposed to go down easily nobody told him because the fighter from Arizona pestered Lopez with right hand counters all night long. Despite receiving some horrific combinations from the undefeated fighter, Herrera always returned with an answer like a smart aleck kid.

Scheduled for six rounds Lopez let go of all his ammunition in the last round and though Herrera did not touch the floor following an eight-punch barrage, referee Raul Caiz Jr. saw enough and stopped the fight at 2:16 of the sixth round.

Lopez, who is the son of the late Hector Lopez, was declared the winner by knockout in the lightweight clash.

In the co-main event female sensation Adelaida “La Cobra” Ruiz (5-0, 2 KOs) defeated Mexico City’s Reyna Cotija (5-1, 2 KOs) by knockout in a battle of undefeated bantamweight prospects. Ruiz beat up then knocked out Cotija with a left hook at 1:28 of the fourth round. After Cotija was floored her corner wisely stopped the fight by signaling to the referee with a white towel.

Kazakhstan’s Aide Satybaldinova (2-0-1) used her experience to out-punch Huntington Beach’s Kailyn Hansen (0-1) in a four round lightweight affair. Hansen was making her pro debut and showed decent skills in withstanding the multiple attacks by Satybaldinova who won by unanimous decision in front of a large crowd of pro-Kazakhstanis 40-36 twice and 39-35.

Lorraine Villalobos (2-0) won her rematch battle against Mexico’s clever Elvia Trivino (2-3) in a four round minimum weight clash. Both fought each other last summer with Villalobos winning that time too. This time was much more difficult as Trevino displayed a tight defense and never landed more than one blow at a time until the fourth round. But it was too late and all three judges saw it favor of L.A.s Villalobos.

Montebello’s Arthur Saakyan (2-0) slugged his way to a win against the very tough Javier Rodriguez (0-3-1) of Victorville in a welterweight fight. Saakyan’s  style is very similar to former world champion Sergio Mora because he’s trained by the same trainer Dean Campos. He brought a large crowd of fans with him that all were red shirts.

Chicago’s Ernest Muhammed (6-1, 2 KOs) pulled out a win by majority decision over Central Californias Tavorus Teague (4-20, 3 KOs) in a six round super welterweight bout. Muhammed, a southpaw, used a steady right jab to control the fight against the pensive Teague. One judge scored it a draw at 57-57 and the others saw it 59-55 for Muhammed.

Adan Ochoa (5-1, 3 KOs) stopped Mexico’s Mario Mendoza (6-7-1) with a series of blows at 2:09 of the second round in a featherweight bout.

A middleweight fight between debuting boxers saw Bert Ngnibogha (1-0) defeat Zach Juusola (0-1) by unanimous decision after four rounds. Ngnibogha floored Juusola with a quick one-two in the third round. All three scores were 40-35.

Riverside’s Sergio Gonzalez won his first pro fight via knockout in the third round against Derick Bartlemay (0-8-2) in a lightweight contest. Gonzalez caught Bartelemay with a sneaky right and followed up with several more to floor him. Bartlemay beat the count but was met with an onslaught of blows and the fight was stopped at 1:31 of the third round.

Glendale’s Alexander Enriquez (5-0) defeated Eric Rocha (1-3) of Houston by unanimous decision after a four round super bantamweight fight.

Huntington Park’s Cristobal Ortiz (3-0) was the winner by decision after four rounds against Arizona’s Misael Chacon (2-17-1) in a super lightweight match.
