Serhii “Flaco” Bohachuk Wins by KO in Hollywood and Undercard Results

HOLLYWOOD, CA – All was not quiet on Halloween fight night in Hollywood as 360 Promotions staged its last fight of the year at one of the more famous theaters in the film capitol of the world on Tuesday.

With many celebrities in the crowd, several prospects led by Serhii Bohachuk (pictured) entered the prize ring at the Avalon Theater. It was also a night of colorful costumes including Wonder Woman, Leopard Girl and Aussie explorer.

Of all the frightful occurrences, super welterweight prospect Bohachuk (11-0, 11 KOs) confronted Colombia’s Ronald Montes (18-11, 16 KOs) and in 1:50 of the first round he promptly knocked him out with a check left hook.

It was the 11th knockout in 11 fights for Bohachuk who goes by the Spanish nickname “Flaco.” He’s trained by Abel Sanchez and Ben Lira in Big Bear.

“Easy fight,” quipped Bohachuk.

Some of the other fights were not so easy.

A middleweight scrap between two southpaws saw Anaheim’s Jonathan Esquivel (8-0, 7 KOs) floor Victorville’s Rowdy Montgomery (5-2-1) in the second round with a three-punch combination but that was just the start. Both lefties had their moments but Esquivel took advantage of Montgomery’s hands low defense.

It wasn’t until the final two rounds that Montgomery found the flaw in Esquivel’s defense and began peppering the Orange County fighter with short combinations. But it was too little, too late as two judges saw it 59-54 and one 58-55 for Esquivel.

“I knew it would be a brawl,” said Esquivel who won on his birthday.

Hector Rubalcava (9-0, 6 KOs) had a tough test against rugged veteran Mexican fighter Roberto Pucheta (10-15-1) of Mexico City in a six round featherweight clash. Though the taller and faster Rubalcava floored Pucheta in the second round with a short left hook, the shorter Pucheta never quit and even rallied in the last round with a series of overhand rights that connected solidly on Rubalcava. At the end of six rounds one judge saw it 60-53 and the other two saw it 58-55 all for Rubalcava.

Rialto’s Adrian Corona (2-0) won his second consecutive pro fight and defeated Santa Ana’s Gabriel Serrano (0-2) a gangly long-armed featherweight. Corona knocked down Serrano with a right cross in round three but Serrano survived until the end. One judge scored it 40-35 and the other two scored it 39-36 twice.

“He had a very awkward style and I had to work my way in,” said Corona. “I did have to change my game plan because it was an awkward style.”

Los Angeles-based Marco Deckman (2-0, 2 KOs) landed a thudding left to the body to stop San Ysidro’s  Jose Hurtado (5-10) at 33 seconds of the second round in their cruiserweight match. It was Deckman’s second knockout in two fights in the same venue. He’s trained by Freddie Roach.

“Never underestimate no one,” said Deckman who sold many tickets to the event. “I tried to do what my coach told me.”

Devon Lee (6-0, 6 KOs) needed less than a minute to knock out debuting Kenny Brown (0-1) with a right hook during a clinch. The end came at 51 seconds of the first round as Sacramento’s Lee gained his sixth consecutive win as a super lightweight.

“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity, it was just too soon for him,” said Lee about a debuting fighter opposing him.

Teodoro Alonso (1-2) captured his first victory as a professional by unanimous decision over Jamine Miranda (2-3) after a four round super featherweight match. Alonso was the busier and more accurate fighter in a battle that featured more plenty of punching. All three judges scored it 40-36 for Alonso.
