Canelo-GGG II is the 2018 TSS Fight of the Year

The Canelo-Golovkin rematch or Wilder-Fury? Both held the boxing world in awe, but only one featured two of the top pound for pound boxers in the world. On Sept. 15, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez defeated Gennady “GGG” Golovkin by majority decision in their second middleweight clash in Las Vegas and that event is our TSS Fight of the Year.
The first time Alvarez and Golovkin met in September 2017, the pair produced a thrilling 12 round fight filled with drama and expectation but ended in a draw. After 12 rounds both felt they won and Golovkin’s team accused Mexico’s Alvarez of not fighting like a Mexican.
That hurt Alvarez more than any of Golovkin’s blows.
When they met again this past September, Alvarez and Golovkin stood inches apart and traded blows that would fell a heavyweight. The concussion of their punches left the audience in awe. Watching in person is the only way to see a prize fight of this magnitude. Television doesn’t do justice to what Alvarez and Golovkin provided to the fans.
At T-Mobile Arena, Alvarez stunned Golovkin with body blows that would collapse a rogue elephant. Golovkin exploded punches on Alvarez’s skull that would have shattered bullet proof glass. But after 12 concussive rounds, both stood looking at each other eye to eye knowing that they had given their best. This time Alvarez was deemed the winner in a razor close decision.
No other fight in 2018 featured a more exciting and action-packed fight with more punches connected than Alvarez and Golovkin 2.
Runner Up
Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury
Though very few punches were actually landed in this match between gargantuan heavyweights it was the “spectacle of the year.”
Fans in Los Angeles were lucky to witness this rare heavyweight world championship fight that produced drama, knockdowns and come-from-behind effort seldom seen in any world championship fight.
Though the fight ended in a draw fans knew they had witnessed something special. A heavyweight fight like this is rare.
