Spence Jr vs Garcia Has Boxing World’s Attention March 16th

AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys, hosts a massive 17-fight boxing card this Saturday that sees the highly anticipated duel between Errol Spence Jr (24-0) and Mikey Garcia (39-0) for the IBF welterweight world title in the main event spot.
Garcia has been the underdog since the fight was announced and he is still a big underdog. The story is well documented, that Garcia is jumping up to two weight classes to face one of the most feared champions. Garcia is a four division world titlist, but he has never competed at 147 pounds and many thought his next major challenge would be in the lightweight division in the form of Vasyl Lomachenko.
Interestingly, now that we have entered fight week, the odds have slimmed down just a bit. Spence Jr is still a major favorite, but now that the fighters are in Dallas and starting to settle into fight week, some money has come in on Garcia who has undergone a state of the art training camp that included spending a month at Victor Conte’s SNAC (Scientific Nutrition for Advanced Conditioning) laboratories in California. Conte, who was involved in baseball’s Balco scandal now works with VADA to achieve legal results. Garcia is already on most of the pound for pound lists top five and he already scores high in intangibles like fight IQ and pedigree. Add in Conte’s state of the art, modern conditioning techniques and people are starting to buy into Garcia’s chances.
A pair of 10-round bouts in the heavyweight division see two veterans return as they look to get their careers back on track.
Former IBF world titleholder Charles Martin (25-2-1) takes on undefeated Gregory Corbin (15-0). In January of 2016 Martin won the vacant world title when his opponent Vyacheslav Glazkov was injured, and he lost the belt to Anthony Joshua just three months later. He was off for a year and returned to go 2-0 against lesser opposition. He took off another year and returned last September, where he experienced a setback in dropping a unanimous decision to up-and-comer Adam Kownacki. Corbin may be undefeated, but his resume is light, as he has faced just three fighters with winning records.
Chris Arreola (37-5-1) lost a world title fight to Deontay Wilder back in July of 2016, and this will be his second fight back after a layoff of over two years. Stepping up to face Arreola is undefeated Jean Pierre Agustin (17-0-1). Arreola has been in there with Bermane Stiverne, Vitaly Klitschko and Deontay Wilder and there is no one like that anywhere on Agustin’s career list.
With a full night of fights, many are already getting a look at the books. Take a look below for the current lines for the fights described above as well as for a handful of the support fights. The main event airs on FOX PPV. Check your local listings for start times.
