Frank Martin Wins Battle of Undefeated in LA Plus Other Results

Detroit’s Frank Martin dismantled Southern California’s Jerry Perez and won by knockout in a battle between undefeated lightweight prospects on Tuesday.
Martin (13-0, 10 KOs), a southpaw, proved to Perez (13-1, 10 KOs) that he was a step or two superior before no fans at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles. He won almost every round on the Premier Boxing Champions fight card.
As soon as the fight commenced it was evident that Perez had problems figuring out the antidote for Martin’s quickness and sharp attacks. Four rounds into the fight the Southern Californian discovered the body attack worked best.
Martin adapted to the body attack and used movement from one side to the other to keep Perez off balance. He also used a steady supply of right jabs.
Perez pushed the pace but when Martin flashed a double right jab followed by a left cross to the chin, down went Perez. He barely survived and got up at the sound of the 10-second warning. The fight resumed with Martin unloading a volley of blows. Referee Jerry Cantu stopped the fight at 2:59 of round seven. One second remained and Perez seemed surprised by the stoppage.
It was Martin’s first win over an opponent with a winning record and stamped him as a legitimate prospect.

Two judges scored it 78-74 and 77-75 for Resendiz who held incessantly in the second half of the fight.
A super lightweight contest saw Jesus Silveyra (9-6-2) upset Amon Rashidi (8-2-1) after an eight-round slugfest fought mostly inside. It had been nearly three years since has last fight and four years since he last was victorious.
