Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano on Parallel Paths

After that brilliant and historic fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano last April, the public was eager to see the rematch between the two exceptional boxers.
For the first time ever, the legendary Madison Square Garden was headlining two female fighters in the main event and the venue was packed with boisterous fans. Both Taylor and Serrano signed for over one million dollars, including a percentage of the Pay-Per-View.
With a close favorable split decision win, Taylor (21-0, 6 KOs) retained the four lightweight division belts (WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO). The judges scores were as follows: Glenn Feldman (97-93) and Guido Cavalieri (96-93), while Benoit Russell (96-94) scored in favor of Serrano.
Undoubtedly, the night of last April 30 was a historical event, with Serrano and Taylor breaking records, past taboos and injustices. Without a doubt, their accomplishment will allow other fellow female fighters to enjoy the rights that were denied them for many years.
In the past, promoters have rejected the idea that two women could successfully be featured in a venue like Madison Square Garden and draw the necessary crowd. They were proved wrong on that memorable day of April 30th, 2022. Approximately twenty thousand people attended the historic event in the Big Apple, proving the prestige of both contenders who engaged in a heated battle in the ring. Following the intense fight, Serrano stated that she would request a rematch with Taylor.
Four months later, Jake Paul, the famous youtuber who guides Serrano’s career, confirmed a $2 million offer to Katie Taylor for the rematch, but on the condition that it be at 126 pounds. Taylor, who has fought almost her entire career at lightweight, responded that the request for her to come down to 126 pounds was ridiculous.
Almost a month after Paul’s offer to Taylor, Serrano faced Sarah Mahfoud on September 24th at the Manchester Arena. Serrano was victorious, retaining her WBC, IBF and WBO featherweight belts.
Immediately after that fight, it was learned that Gilberto Mendoza, president of the WBA, is working with the organization’s legal team to hold a unification matchup between Serrano and Erika Cruz (15-1, 3 KOs), the WBA featherweight champion.
Meanwhile, on October 29th, Taylor will risk her four 135-pound belts against Argentine Karen Carabajal (19-0, 2 KOs). The fight will take place at the OVO Arena in Wembley, just outside of London.
For Carabajal, 32 years old and born in Buenos Aires, it will be her first foray outside of the South American country. On April 10, Carabajal unanimously defeated her compatriot Lorena Agoutborde (3-3-3, 1 KO) in six rounds, in Buenos Aires.
