Chantelle Cameron was Victorious Over Jessica McCaskill … But Wants More

Chantelle Cameron is an undisputed queen in women’s boxing. Last Saturday, November 5^th, the Brit became the first female boxer to possess the four most important titles at 140 pounds.

Known by the pseudonym of “Il Capo”, the undefeated Cameron (17-0, 8 KOs) put on an excellent performance and beat American Jessica “Caskilla” McCaskill (12-3, 5 KOs) by unanimous decision. The fight took place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.

From the beginning, Cameron exhibited a more precise boxing style, which gave her a clear edge over McCaskill. Using quick leg movement, Cameron continually adjusted to McCaskill’s elusive style, thereby preventing her from being able to land her power shots for most of the 10 rounds.

With that victory (two of the judges scored the fight 96-94 and the other 97-93), Cameron kept her WBC and IBF titles, while also obtaining the vacant WBA and WBO titles.

Despite the loss, McCaskill retained the four belts (WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF) in the welterweight division that she won in August 2020 when she beat Cecilia Braekhus by majority decision. At that time, Braekhus was considered the best pound for pound female fighter. In the rematch between McCaskill and Braekhus in March of 2021, McCaskill won even more convincingly, with the three judges scoring the fight 100-89, 99-90, and 98-91.

The loss prevented Braekhus from surpassing the record of 25 consecutive defenses set by legendary American heavyweight Joe “The Detroit Bomber” Louis (66-3, 52 KOs) between June 1937 and September 1950. Louis died at the age of 66 on April 12, 1981. He won the heavyweight championship belt by anesthetizing James J. Braddock in the eighth round on June 22, 1937, and he held his reign until his temporary retirement on March 1, 1949.

CAMERON WANTS MCCASKILL’S WELTERWEIGHT TITLES

Born on May 14, 1991, just outside of London, England, Cameron obtained the vacant WBC title by defeating Brazilian Adriana dos Santos by decision on October 4, 2020. Twelve months later, on October 30, 2021, she seized the IBF belt with a victory against American Mary McGee at the 02 Arena England.

Just after her fight against McCaskill last weekend, Cameron expressed her desire to face McCaskill again, but next time at 147 pounds, to give her the opportunity to snatch the four welterweight belts from her.

“It was the toughest opponent I’ve ever had,” Cameron said. “She’s undisputed at 147 (pounds), I got the win unanimously so let’s go again at 147 and I’ll take those belts off her. I put my belts on the line so she can whack hers on the line and we’ll go again.”
