Tyson Fury vs. Derek Chisora: The Fight Nobody Wants

The general feeling around the third fight between behemoths Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora, on December 3 in London is that nobody wants it.
The reasons are convincing: Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) owns the WBC title, is at the top of his game, and has already twice defeated Chisora (33-12, 23 KOs), who has lost three of his last four bouts.
Fury is criticized from all sides for this choice of opponent which can only be justified from the monetary point of view as he will earn several million euros while staying active in the fight game.
Weeks ago, seventy-year-old Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions told the British media that negotiations with representatives for Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) were very close to materializing; however, the agreement later fell through.
OLEKSANDR USYK: “(FURY) IS AFRAID OF ME”
Without a doubt, the most-longed-for fight in the heavyweight division is between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs), the WBA, IBF, and WBO champion.
If the fight finally does take place, the winner would be the unified heavyweight champion for the first time in history since the existence of the four most prestigious organizations in boxing.
Usyk, the thirty-five-year-old southpaw from Ukraine, has defeated Joshua twice, first in September 2021 by unanimous decision when he took the three crowns from Joshua, and this year in the August rematch in Saudi Arabia, when he won by split decision.
Commenting on the fight between Fury and Chisora, Usyk said: “At this moment in time, it makes me laugh about it. Why is he doing this (fighting Chisora)? I think we already agreed with him to fight and now he’s running and saying that I don’t want to fight him……I know that (he’s scared of me).”
THE WBC SUPPORTS THE FURY VS USYK FIGHT
With the purpose of eliminating the obstacles that prevent the fight between Fury and Usyk, Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the WBC, affirmed that this sanctioning body will support the unification duel between the two heavyweight monarchs.
“There has been real interest in having Fury against Usyk take place, that would be a great possibility and then the winner would have to fight the WBC mandatory once that is confirmed,” Sulaiman told Sky Sports. “The WBC has been extremely supportive of unification bouts. If it happens it will be a tremendous fight for the world and the WBC is supportive of that as long as the rights of the mandatory contender are not infringed.”
The Fury-Usyk fight has another obstacle in the way. In a mandatory fight, the Ukrainian must face undefeated Croatian Filip Hrgovic (15-0, 12 KOs), who is ranked number one by the IBF.
The conflict over the IBF order would force Usyk to seek an agreement with Hrgovic, who, if he stands firm in his right and does not accept any financial compensation, would force Usyk to give up the IBF belt. So, if the Fury vs. Usyk duel were to take place, it would leave the winner with three crowns, Fury’s WBC and WBA belts and Usyk’s WBO belt.
However, the only definitive thing so far is that Fury will collide for the third time with Chisora in a bout denounced as unnecessary in boxing circles.
