The Sweet Science Rankings: Week of April 24th, 2023

Changes this week at 130, 135 and 140lbs.

130: Joe Cordina claims the number one spot at the expense of an inactive Oscar Valdez after winning a war with Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov.  No demotion for Rakhimov who continues to inhabit the number five spot.

135: Tank Davis remains in the number two spot after defeating Ryan Garcia. Garcia, who has stated publicly that he will not fight again at 135lbs (and noting that he hasn’t actually made 135lbs since January 2021) is removed from the 135lb rankings meaning everyone below #4 moves up a spot and Jamaine Ortiz returns at #10.

140: Albert Puello, number nine, has been pulled from a May 13 fight after failing a drugs test.  By all accounts I have seen, Puello is cooperating with authorities and may yet be cleared, but while we wait he has been pulled from the rankings to be reintroduced if appropriate.  Shohjahon Ergashev of Uzbekistan debuts at 10.

*Please note that when the fighter’s name appears with an asterisk it represents a movement in ranking from the previous week.
